Society is increasingly more aware of the detrimental impacts which biodiversity loss can cause on human well-being (Collen 2013). Biodiversity has a direct influence on those ecosystem structures and functions which affect our food supply security, spreading of contagious diseases, pollination, genetic resources for the pharmaceutical industry etc. (Collen 2013). For this reason, academics and policy makers' focus has shifted more and more towards developing a comprehensive methodology to allow a correct monitoring of biodiversity indicators as well as indicators of pressure in order to derive a better understanding of the causality of biodiversity loss (Collen 2013).
